 BCN 121 was the purple Proton Saga Noreen drove masa KPP dulu.

Read the news of her kids wedding, so a slew of memories popped up, so tulis la kt sini. Out of my head.

1) Rakan kelas English Accel IU10 masa KPP 1991.

2) Lagu Riff 'My Heart Is Failing Me' always reminds me of her sebab I saw her with the Riff debut album cassette in class, masa 1991 tu.

3) Dia geng dgn budak2 hi class tu :P 

4) We flew sama2 to US, in 1993, same flight. Tp, den remembered she was huddled under the covers, whole flight. Why? dont know

5) Met her once masa dia jalan2 dgn geng dia, kt DC, around Lincoln Memorial .. summer 95 me thinks.

6) Last time saw her was kt Langkawi, at Karen's place, around late 2023. Awkward.

1991, PPP/ITM Orientation and Michael Bolton

 Whenever I hear or see this song, Michael Bolton's 'How I Am Supposed To Live Without You?", it automatically takes me back to a particular moment during my PPP/ITM years.

It was in the first week of orientation among us new students. We were mixed around with students of other programs (AUSMAT, A Level), and split into multiple groups.

In my group, we sat around in the classroom, and for starters, were asked to introduce ourselves. As it went around, I could not help to notice that most of the ladies were quoting. Michael Bolton, as their favorite singer. Adoi, ya, that song was a big hit at that time, so it makes sense.

And, I still remember the AUSMAT girl who said that Bolton was her favorite singer. ;) oh well, memories la ...

Selamat Pengantin Baru Dr Amirah + Afiq

Tahniah Dr Amirah n Afiq

Anak pertama iu10 batch, anak tuan Rizal (Bob) Jaapar dan Puan Sukma.

 

Untuk beberapa tahun kebelakangan, saya selalu wish Happy Birthday kepada Dr Amirah pada May 13, melalui Sukma, sebab birthday dia memang saya ingat.

 

Saya beritahu pasangan pengantin tentang cerita kecil ini, dan saya beritahu tuan Afiq, seorang civil engineer, lepas ini, saya tak wish dah, saya serahkan tugas ini kepada beliau, ahaks. Hahaha.

 

For me, the most significant moment is it completes the circle that began in Sabak Bernam, late 1995.

Late 1995, naik motor pergi jumpa pasangan Bob dan Sukma di Sabak Bernam, rumah tepi main road. Terkejut den kejap, sebab tu lah first time jumpa Sukma sarat dengan her. Now, it's complete.

 

 Nasihat saya pada mereka berdua -Byk2 sabar

Robin Hood, Bryan Adams and Bas Stand Klang

One of my earliest kenangan of PPP life happened in my early weeks as a student there.

One weekend, me and Errol went to watch Kevin Costner's Robin Hood Prince of Thieves at Rex KL. You know that movie due to that Bryan Adams song, Everything I Do (I Do It 4 U), the megahit. 

After the movie, we caught the last bus to Shah Alam Sek 18, from the famous bus stand klang. It's not there anymore, the Pasar Seni MRT station is, but it used to be the hub of KL intra travel.

Dalam bus, terjumpa la a few iu10 guys as well, budak2 track 2. I was excitedly chattering to them about how cool the movie was, a bit noisy. Errol tried to calm me down masa tu :p

Hence the post title :)

Selamat Tinggal Arwah Eda

 I am a friend of Eda, but not a very close friend. But, I remembered her. This post is about what I remember about her.

In kolej KPP ITM, where we first met .. 1991. She was from the other English Accel class. The first thing I noticed about her is how she looks at you when talking, a sideways eye view I call it ;) she was the only one who did so, even till now.

As with my college mate friends, betul2 kawan after balik from USA. She went to DePaul University, Chicago, kt midwest.

Balik Malaysia,  one of her first kerja was nearby my old office actually. I was working in Wisma Semantan, she worked at Maybank nearby, tge Bkt Damansara branch. She got married to Sulla and had two boys. The only I remember about her wedding was it was held in a restaurant, because I didn't go.

Notable memories

• Visited her n hubby kedai accessories hotel at Sg Buloh.
• Asked her about the reasons why she n hubby moved to Perlis.
• Met her and family a few times di Perlis
• Hubby story about how they got married.

A bit on her background, rupanya dia mmg lama di Perlis masa her childhood as her dad worked there. And her final resting place is there as well.

From her friends, she was always the supportive and sweet friend that everyone néeds.

To her husband, she was his best proposal :)

Rest well, Eda. Terima kasih untuk semua, and see you when we get there.

Azran n Na Part 2

 Hari ini birthday Ms Dr Ainu Husna yg ke XX, so teringat yang cerita mereka dalam blog ini belum lengkap lagi. The part 1 is here.

Post ini my summary of the various info I got about how they hook up. Ada yang terkurang kot, tapi apa2 pun it is my memories la ye .. :D

Actually, their hook up atau pertemuan dua hati depa , cewah .... berlaku di Sekayu, Terengganu. :)

Pada awal tahun 1993, IUCC ( IU computer club), mengadakan lawatan camping ke Hutan Lipur Sekayu, Besut, Terengganu. Saja nak cari alasan nak jalan2 jauh especially for our second year/final year members.

Ramai ahli yang daftar la.. so me n my 2 exco, Intan n Sukma, had to assign groups ... each group ada a few members, and an adult yg ikut trip kami. These groups were for the activities yg akan dijalankan di sana.

So, tgh assign2 ni budak .. kononnya nak avoid any romantic things happening, so my aim was to ensure the group mix was budak iu10 n iu11, but nothing gonna happen. So, then nama depa, Azran n Na came up ... the Sukma suggested depa dua in the same group, I was like ... yeah, boleh, sure nothing gonna happen la ... 

Famous last words :P

Am not sure of what happened to them during the trip, tapi kan, I definitely remembered, masa dalan bas on the way back ke Shah Alam, tgh borak dengan Azran, and he said, ".. ni mmg trip yg best la Pet .. mmg something ..", and had the mata jiwang look. Okay, I thought masa tu. :)

Fast forward years later, ke Azran n Na's reception at Hotel Concorde Shah Alam,-- they had a montage of pics of them playing on the big screen, and one of the Sekayu pics of them was there, with the phrase "Masa 2 hati bertemu" ... 

Some little notes

• Am not sure if Na ever went to Missouri, but Azran selalu rajin turun ke Arizona. Azran kata, nak jumpa dengan Taib, our common IU10 friend.
• Sampai sekrg, kawan je ... :P

Amir, Arif n Azim ... tu la kisah cinta pak mak hang .. so far yg den ingat :)

Selamat Hari Jadi Intan

 Today is her ... birthday, Insta Isma.

So, ahaks, of course, a post on some things I remember about her.

1. Rakan IU10 KPP, bidang yg dekat2 sama ... she Comp Sci, me MIS

2. My vice president during my reign :D as the IU Computer Club president.

3. Setiap kali lalu Kompleks Sukan Datuk Keramat, dekat stesen Jelatek, mesti ingat majlis perkahwinan beliau yang diadakan di situ, di mana me n Errol was invited, which leads to No. 4

4. Ingat lagi this conversation we had with her, masa tu. She got married before Ramadhan, so takut dia boleh terbatal puasa atas sebab dot ... dot .. ;) dia kata, " Takpe, I dah tanya ustaz. Apa2 pun, I berbuka dulu ... then .... dot dot dot .... " :D  for an innocent moir masa tu ... I was like, Dangggg .... hehehe

A Lady Name Ena

This is Ena Yaacob.

Ena now and then sama je :D

I first met this lady in 1991, at PPP/ITM Shah Alam, where we were in the same English Accel class. First impression, was she is tall :) and she hung out mostly with Noreen (BCN121), as they were from  the same school, BBGS KL, during that Accel semester.

At the end of that Accel semester, our class presented a play titled 'Mai' - Mother. She played the lead actress ... the  heroine la kiranya ... Jeni played the mother ... Fariza played the evil character ... Hassanal (Jones) played the younger hero, while Adrian played the adult hero.  Macam biasa, tragic ending. Directed by Ajak, and yours truly was the sound man (sound manager). 

I always thought she was down to earth, and her giggly nervous laugh. Trademark dia oo ... then got to know her ayah is the Admiral of Lumut Naval base ... VVIP of Royal Malaysian Navy. Nasib baik den tak nakal2 dengan dia,ahaks.

In 92, a bunch of us had a trip to Pangkor, and on the last day, before balik KL, we went to visit her parents place at tbe Lumut naval base. It was on a hill. I remembered seeing her collection of Seventeen magazines at the book shelves. Banyak tu :) We were so honored to receive her family's gracious hospitality. 

Upon finishing PPP/ITM, she went to Syracuse. 

Balik from Syracuse, she worked for a while in business development at a local firm. During this time, I learned a new term from her - MBA. As she was busy travelling with business delegations during her employment, she met quite a few MBAs.

Sham - her beloved hubby who is from the University of Bristol (with a UK accent) deserves a mention. I went to their nikah ceremony, and they were lovely in white. I remembered the look on Sham's face selesai akad nikah. During the hotel reception, I remembered the story of how they met, as told by Hanz (IU9), a simple 'I've been watching you watching me' thing that happened during a hotel dinner. 

After the wedding, dia pindah ikut Sham ke USA sebab Sham kerja di sana as a consultant. The first few years we had email exchanges ;)  which I treasured. 'Made in Cancun' will always be remembered ;) They have 2 boys - a Tar Heel and a Tiger.

The Calculus Affair

 I had to take calculus during my PPP years, and I sucked at it. There I said it :P  

One of my clear memories of calculus is the story below ..

One of my roommates, let's call him Man, is a genius. Dude scores la in his studies suffice to say. And we took the same calculus classes, and he did well, and I barely passed, one of the reasons why I changed my major from Statistics to Management Information Systems later.

On the second calculus course we took together, there was a monthly test. And it was on a Monday. So good old me on whole of Sunday, spent practicing for the test. And, Man was out on a date. Later in the evening, after Maghrib, he came back. He was mumbling, saying that he didn't practice for the next day test and felt he will not do well. What he did for the next few hours, was, and am not kidding, he sat on his bunk bed, READING the chapters on which the test was based, using the big red Calculus textbook. Yes, no practice, no scribbling. He would read a bit, ponder for a while, and continue. 

The next day, we took the test, and when the results came out, oh well, I barely passed and he ACED it. 

Life ain't fair :P

Wan and In The Still Of Night

Saya ingat seorang rakan di KPP, gadis dari Assam Kumbang, Perak. Salah satu kenangan manis pengalaman Shah Alam. Namanya Wan Noor Halizan Wan Zan. 

 Berkaca mata, dengan spek yg saya lihat terlalu besar untuk wajahnya yang bermata sepet. Gaya seorang nerd. Amat minat dengan Gone With The Wind dan U2. 

Conversations we had and the moments we shared, walaupun sekejap saya tidak lupakan.

Yang saya tidak lupakan ialah nyanyian beliau sebagai penyanyi utama, satu malam di hutan Sekayu Terengganu.

Tahun 1993, sekitar awal tahun, sebagai president IU Computer Club, saya n ajk2, menganjurkan lawatan ke Terengganu - camping di hutan lipur Sekayu, dan melawat stesen janakuasa Sultan Nasiruddin Shah, utk melihat sistem IT yang menjalankan stesen.

Malam terakhir, as usual, ada campfire,  sesi hiburan dan makanan.

Sesi hiburan merupakan persembahan setiap kumpulan, sketsa. Setelah habis persembahan-persembahan, suasana santai. Tiba2 ...

" Eh, Wan, u nyanyi la ...Kita org backup .. ok, Pet? " ... Not sure siapa yg cakap tu..

" Sure .. go ahead " 

Dan terus a quartet sang ... Wan penyanyi, dan Ainu Husna, was one of the three backups.

Habis penyanyi, tepukan gemuruh untuk mereka. And I said, "En Vogue everyone!" ...

:)  

I still remember her singing the words ... Tidak lantang, tetapi I remember.

And each time I hear or think of the song, I remember that night in Sekayu ...

Malam Jaksis Dinner, May-Jun 1993 ... tak ingat bila masa tu ... di Sheraton Subang, if I am not mistaken 

The moment dah mula suspek something going on between depa berdua 

Post dinner, macam biasa, ramai2 yang ambil gambar with each other.

Then depan pintu masuk dewan, nampak Na lambai2 ajak Azran ambil gambar dengan dia ... macam malu2 kucing ... and they posed for the picture ... siapa photographer? I don't remember, but I remember aksi Na masa tu, dan respon Azran masa tu. 

Later, I think I asked Azran ... dia jawap, "kawan je ..." ... nak tanya Na, ... err, takpe la ... :D

But, rupa2nya ... bukan mula dari situ ye .... :)
